Too big and too pricey 😅
Hi ! Have you ever tried to replicate one specific pigment by mixing primary colors ? Because some people say that pigment can not be replicated by mixing colors. I am a little bit confused.
Oh Wow! Such a great find!
I agree! But alas, I wont be able to use up all these paints.
Nice! I am thinking of getting the 30 pans one? Do you still recommend it?
@@sarajamal799 I can recommend it for a studio palette. Its a bit heavy. It stains but cleaning it is easy.
@@PaletteAdventure thank you!
I wish holbein would bring back the folding palettes they used to have.
Oh these are so lovely
So cool that you get to go to that event! My favs are the staining ones, I love vibrant colors ❤
Same here! The sales staff were helpful too. The staining colors are really vibrant.
I hope you feel better soon, and thank you for sharing the new colors! I'm so interested in their grey I've never seen that pigment before 😊
Thank you! Im feeling much better. Im almost ready to film my art haul 😇
Where do you get second hand art supplies?I am new to this,& would love to know!
What are your thoughts on the bump that is caused under your paper by the top layer of wood?
Hi Katrin! I saw in some comments that you were running an irodori lightfastness test. I would appreciate it so much if you posted it! Maybe just a picture for progress if you aren’t done. I just bought all 4 sets in Japan and am itching to try it but I’m such a stickler for lightfast colors!! 😭
Hi! The video is ready but im having issues uploading it 🤦♀️ Hopefully I can upload it within this week.
I would be very curious for you to swatch all your vintage supply to see how they perform 😊
Do the W&N tubes have the pigment information? Does the set include genuine gamboge, Prussian Green and Madder Violet?
i love the idea of the movable pans but i just don't get it, -------- why do they make a palette that when you close it the paints on one side are going to be upside down facillitating drips.... at home i can leave it open, well mostly if i can keep the cats from walking through it an making colorful paw prints all over the furniture and floors but if i am working outside i do not have the luxury of time for the paints to dry and have to close it --so which paints do i want to drip down onto the others or if i lay it on its side, all the paints will drip down.
Can you link or the items you bought please especially the two empty palettes
Wow, I looked very hard for Holbein gouache swatches last year, but really didn't find much! You must have done this video soon after. And you did lightfastness tests to boot! Thank you for doing all this work. Random fact: I bought 3 out of 4 of the Iridori sets, then realized the artwork on the front of the boxes were done by assembling clip art. That was disappointing! There is a koi fish in the sky of the Autumn set, and a leaf in the sky of the Winter set. I started looking closer and realized it was clip art. :(
Ohh i’ve never looked closely on the irodori boxes. Interesting! Altho surely you would think the artwork represents the product itself? Hmm
@@PaletteAdventure Yes, you would think.... it was a great disappointment!
I still want this palette very much :) Have you enjoyed yours?
Hi. Yes. I use it mostly as a mixing palette. The surface is smooth and easy to clean although it stains.
lucky girl! so pretty!
Everything was soooo awesome! 🫶
As an artist this is a treasure trove, and as I actually collect vintage nail polish, I can completely understand this excitement of finding something older and rarer!
Myby wen i can paint realy good i,ll look into this holbein gouache set of 84 colours but for now i,ll stick whit my acrylic gouache paints from liquitex and my miya himi gouache set of 56 colours
OMG so many gouache tubes😊 i paint whit the himi miya 56 gouache set and the12 set of acrylic gouache paints from liquitex 😊👋🏾👍🏾 i love the fibrent colours😊👍🏾👋🏾
I collect and use second hand art supplies too. So glad to see someone else. Well done on the series 7 brushes in particular.
Where did you get these old/used art supplies? Garage sales or ? Thank you.
Thanks for sharing your setup
You always have awesome finds!
Love the ceramic pans and the larger round pans which would make for great mixing plates. Great finds
Where is this place?
Im not sure what do you mean but the video was taken in my art room.
That watercolour set is amazing! ❤
Where do you go to find these things? Seriously! Please, tell me!
Wow! That's so cool! Where do you find that kind of treasure? I live in Canada though... Is it all online? I'm gonna start to look for some too if it is the case. Any trick for me? By the way, if you like painting with gouache, you're gonna love the Shinan poster color even if they are not lightfast. They are pigmented and reconstitute well. Enjoy! :)
$30 for those pastels?! SHEEESH!! 👏🏾
Ohhh what a wonderful collection😍 Like you, I like to collect old sets - especially professional grade watercolour, even tho I'm an amateur. You've really inspired me to tidy my art room over the weekend and feast my eyes on my old treasures ❤️ Thanks for sharing, Katrin😃🥰
Those W&N finds are soooo cool!
Hello! I recognise the Japanese box on the left. It’s by Saiundo (or Saiun Do). The store still operates in Kyoto and sells their paints in the same ceramic pans and packaged in the same box. I’d love to visit them one day! I don’t think the paints have gone bad, they are just dry. Try using them; but do note that Japanese paints are more opaque than western watercolours.
Thats good to know! Ive been to Kyoto once but at that time I didnt know about Saiundo. I have some of their Japanese paints in ceramic round dish which I showed in the video. Their ceramic dish is the only one that has their shop name stamped.
@@PaletteAdventure Yes, I’ve noticed them together with the Ueba Eso pans.
You might want to sand that bijou box and paint it before the rust eats it away.
I live in Lowestoft not too far from where the brushes are made 😊
Where can one find secondhand supplies?
Hi! I find them online and locally. Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, online auctions, art stores (check their clearance pile!) but majority of these were from Marketplace.
Okay, Im hooked, where do you search for second hand art supplies..wow what a great share...thanks
Hi! I find them online and locally. Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, online auctions, art stores (check their clearance pile!) but majority of these were from Marketplace.
That black heavyweight W&N palette is lovely, and all the Japanese colours in porcelain dishes, oblong and round are lovely too. I liked the Shinhan poster colour set a lot too, I think these were used by students studying analogue type animation before the digital stuff took over. You can set up the jars and even leave them open just keep them topped up with distilled water so they remain moist.
Wow! As a fellow vintage art supply collector I am so jealous, but happy for you to find such treasures. I have the guitar paints in a tin and also had tubes that I put in a palette. They are so much fun to use.....They have a slight odor though. I paint with them in sketchbooks so don't have to think about LF issues. My hauls this summer were from artist estate sales of some vintage paints and newer items, vintage pastel set, Derwent drawing set, lots of charcoal and pastel paper, vintage Aquabee paper, watercolor book and about a dozen art magazines from the 1990's. I'm having a blast using them all. I'd love to see your swatches of the Gansai paints....actually all the paints. I broke down and just bought a set of 48 Gansai paints and they are fun to create with. Have a great day and will look forward to your next haul or swatching results.
So many interesting finds!

Just Wow! So many great finds I'm especially surprised by the old gansai paint sets with the porcelain pans!
They are so nice! Aliexpress has porcelain pans that you can buy. Not as big though.
Hi E4! I see you everywhere on RUclips 😄.
@@awatercolourist haha hi 😅
Very cool! Ty for sharing
Hi, How do you find these palettes holding up? Do you still like them after 6 months? Thank you
thanks for sharing your favourites!
Thank you! I’m looking for a gold gouache from Holbein so thank you for your review❤
Are you in Australia that’s awesome I’m always on the look out for art supplies and rarely find them I don’t use marketplace I try eBay a little bit I recently brought a set of 40 neo color 11 but it wasn’t that cheap I think I got it 20 dollars cheaper than brand new all the tops were worn I wasn’t worried bout that . Maybe I need to go garage shops .. I do try op shops but never find brand name stuff the other day I got a bag of mont morte watercolour tubes I think my 3 year old will like them ..
Yes im in Australia. Marketplace is great for finding good deals. Me and my friend always share listings we find that we know the other one would like. Ive recently got heaps of good stuff for $150au. Worth 7kg of supplies! (12 Coliro metallic sets ($45ea RRP), Mission Gold pure pigment wc paints, heaps of cotman tubes, inktense pans and many more. It was such a good deal. I go to Salvos and find stuff for mix media. I also get ceramic plates from there to use as a mixing palette.
